K9 Tapeworm Killer is for the removal of both kinds of tapeworms (Dipylidiumcaninum and Taenia taeniaeformis) found in cats, kittens, dogs and puppies. The active ingredient in our tapeworm killer is the only product that kills both kinds of tapeworms found in dogs, cats, and other animals.

 How it works

Praziquantel is absorbed, metabolized in the liver and excreted in the bile. Upon entering the digestive tract from the bile, cestocidal activity is exhibited. Following exposure to praziquantel, the tapeworm loses its ability to resist digestion by the mammalian host. Because of this, whole tapeworms, including the scolex, are very rarely passed after administration of praziquantel. In many instances only disintegrated and partially digested pieces of tapeworms will be seen in the stool. The majority of tapeworms killed are digested and are not found in the feces.

The life cycle of fleas and tapeworms

Tapeworms: Dogs and cats get tapeworms mainly from ingesting fleas while grooming themselves. The common tapeworm is released from the digested flea and becomes attached itself to the intestine and starts absorbing nutrients and robbing your dog of energy. Tapeworms can grow to become many feet long while attached to the stomach wall of your dog. You know your pet has tapeworms when you see tiny segments that look like a grain of rice around the rectum of your pet or in dried stools. You might also see short white segments, in fresh stools, which can expand and contract in becoming slightly longer then shorter. Dragging the anus on the floor or ground can be due to tapeworms but may be due to other causes. Tapeworms carried by fleas can only be treated by using Praziquantel. Nobody wants a parasite such as a tapeworm living inside his or her dog. How could they be healthy and enjoy life with a tapeworm living inside them, robbing them of nutrients, energy, and happiness? You're your dog happy and playful by worming them regularly. Tapeworms aren't usually life threatening to larger dogs but they can be life threatening for smaller ones.
